  • FAVORITE place in Pasadena. The people, the workouts, the vibe, there’s nothing I don’t like about resistance. More than anything though, the community keeps me coming back. If you’re interesting in meeting some great people, regardless of your fitness level, come by!!

  • This is not just a gym where you go to exercise - it's a community of support. CrossFit is new to me and the coaches, ALL of them, have been amazing so far. For that reason, along with the encouraging members, I continue to show up consistently. I would highly recommend anyone to give it a try.

  • I dropped in to an 8 am class while visiting family. The website said "join for the fitness, stay for the community" which I find to be the best thing about CrossFit. The coach was super knowledgeable and led a good warm up. Everyone was super nice and supportive of each other

  • Resistance Crossfit is an amazing space. They have a very knowledgeable staff and organize great community events. It's connected to a pizza shop and coffee shop so you get everything under one roof. More importantly their programming is great and very welcoming for new members. 10/10 Crossfit Gym.

  • Believe the hype!!! I am the opposite of a gym rat, but if you are, this place I'm sure would be great for you too. I got there a little early since I'd not been before. Mike was beyond welcoming, asked a few questions and told me a little what to expect. Everyone in the class (of 6 or so people at 8am on a Wednesday) was nice. Everyone was lifting different weight and me? I was lifting the bar, yep, just the bar and I felt just fine about that. I trust that eventually would have weights on it if I didn't live 500 miles away. The next morning I can tell I got a workout, I'm aware of muscles that haven't been used in a hit, but I'm not in pain, and for me that's the sweet spot. So. Bottom line? Go and commit. I wish I could. But do it for you.

  • I love this place with all my heart and soul periodt. Everyone's so nice and welcoming and progressive and I made so many new friends since joining. A really diverse gym with an equal ratio of men to women also which is an important thing to note for me personally. If you're in the Pasadena area and wanna give this place a shot, they have a free first day trial followed by a $10 for 10 days deal. Now go slay~

  • Resistance Athletics is more than a gym; it is a community of individuals who all support each other. Coaches are amazing and are always looking for any improvement that will help us lift heavier and maintain safe form. Before RA, I couldn't even lift a barbell and forget doing a snatch, now I can do both and feel confident in my abilities. It's not just weightlifting or "CrossFit" movements that you get better at; it is everyday things like picking up a box at work or going for a hike. Members and coaches are always cheering for each other. RA has become my second home, and there isn't another place like it.

  • I last reviewed Resistance four years ago, about a year after I came here from another local gym that was a mainstay in the community. What with Covid and all, a lot has changed in the gym-world since then. What initially brought me in the door at Resistance and then got me to stick around was the great people here and the awesome vibe. Whether you're an experience CrossFit athlete or someone taking your first steps into functional fitness, as long as you're a good person, there's a home at Resistance for you. If you're legitimately trying to go to the Games, there are better places for you to train. Similarly if you're looking for a gym that's a pick-up spot and like a Vegas pool party with more muscle, there are other places to go that'll be right up your alley. However if you're looking to be the best you, whether that means landing on the podium in local competitions, developing fitness that you can use to excel in your other athletic endeavors, or simply feeling more energetic and capable as you go through daily life, this is the place for you. If you want to make a lot of friends with people who will genuinely support you in your fitness journey, this is the place for you. If you want to be part of a true fitness community, this is the place for you.

  • If your ready to work your way to your peak fitness there really is no better group of trainers to get you there! Very supportive very professional, it's like a small Fittness family. They are very conscious of the safety of all and are always cleaning and we are tasked to clean after use with spray bottles and clean rags readily available. Do it sign up! You'll be glad you did!

  • Functional Fitness offers numerous benefits for overall fitness and health. This high-intensity program improves cardiovascular health, builds strength and muscle, and supports weight loss. Workouts are designed to enhance overall fitness, targeting multiple muscle groups simultaneously through varied exercises. Most importantly, Functional Fitness promotes mental health benefits by providing a stress-relieving outlet and boosting confidence through personal achievements. The community aspect fosters a sense of belonging and accountability, making it easier to maintain a consistent fitness routine.

  • Functional Fitness differs significantly from traditional gyms in several key aspects. While traditional gyms offer self-guided workouts with isolated exercises, we provides structured classes led by certified coaches, focusing on functional movements that mimic real-life activities. Classes high-intensity interval training (HIIT) approach contrasts with the steady-state cardio often found in traditional gyms. Moreover, Group training emphasizes a strong sense of community, with group workouts and social events, unlike the typically solitary nature of traditional gym sessions. Functional Fitness also integrates nutrition guidance as an integral part of the fitness program, whereas traditional gyms may not place as much emphasis on dietary aspects. If any of this sounds interesting to you, give it a try!

  • Absolutely! Workouts are adaptable to all fitness levels, including beginners. At Resistance Athletics, we offer introductory classes - called “Foundations” - and scaled workouts to accommodate newcomers. Our experienced coaches will guide you through proper techniques, help you build a foundation of strength and endurance, and gradually increase intensity as you progress. We emphasize proper form and safety, ensuring that beginners can participate comfortably and confidently in our community. Good form over heavy weight is an always!

  • One of the advantages of Functional Fitness is that it requires minimal personal equipment. For most classes, you'll need comfortable athletic wear and supportive cross-training shoes. We provide all necessary equipment for workouts, including barbells, kettlebells, jump ropes, and pull-up bars. As you advance, you might consider investing in weightlifting shoes, gymnastics grips, or a weightlifting belt, but these are optional. Our focus is on functional movements that often use bodyweight or basic equipment, making classes accessible and cost-effective.

  • Functional Fitness is an effective program for weight loss due to its high-intensity workouts that burn a significant number of calories. The combination of strength training and cardiovascular exercises in class workouts boosts metabolism, leading to increased fat burning even after the workout. Additionally, our emphasis on building lean muscle mass helps improve overall body composition. The supportive community and structured classes also provide motivation and accountability, which are crucial for maintaining a consistent fitness routine and achieving weight loss goals.

  • The Workout of the Day, or WOD, is a cornerstone of Functional Fitness training. It's a daily-changing, high-intensity workout that combines various functional movements from weightlifting, cardio, and gymnastics. WODs are designed to challenge different aspects of fitness, ensuring a well-rounded and constantly varied exercise regimen. At Resistance Athletics, our coaches carefully program WODs to target different energy systems and muscle groups, preventing plateaus and keeping workouts exciting and effective. The WOD is typically performed in a group setting, fostering a sense of community and friendly competition.

  • The frequency of classes depends on your fitness level and goals. For beginners, we recommend starting with 2-3 classes per week to allow for proper recovery and adaptation. As your fitness improves, you can gradually increase to 4-5 sessions per week. It's essential to listen to your body and balance intense workouts with adequate rest. Our coaches can help you develop a personalized schedule that aligns with your objectives and lifestyle, ensuring optimal progress and preventing overtraining. We believe rest days are just as important as workout days.
